Philea, the European philanthropy association, is publishing a new edition of the Country Legal and Tax Profiles for Foundations, which provide an overview of the regulatory environment for philanthropy in 40 countries in Europe. Written by country experts, each profile provides an in-depth analysis of requirements such as registration, reporting, economic activity, governance and tax treatment, as well as trends and regulatory developments.
Published in its previous edition with data up to 2020, this month Philea has started publishing the first reports updated to 2024, and over the next year will publish the remaining reports to cover all 40 countries surveyed. All will be available free of charge on the Philea website.
The country profiles will enable researchers, industry, philanthropic partners and policy makers to further analyse trends and developments in their own countries and will serve as the basis for the updated Comparative Highlights of Foundation Laws, last published in 2021.
This publication, developed in collaboration with an advisory committee, provides key information that allows policymakers, philanthropists and academics to compare what is happening elsewhere with their own national situations. The aim is to contribute in each country to creating a more favourable operating environment for foundations.
For more than two decades, Philea (formerly Daphne and EFC) has been monitoring, researching and analysing the operating space for philanthropy and foundations.
