The necessary convergence between Social Economy and Social Enterprises

"In general terms, and considering the legislative mosaic and the various international and European Union documents, social enterprises should be understood as entities of a private nature, autonomous and independent from the state (although they may involve the participation of public entities), that necessarily incorporate three dimensions: social, economic, and governance, and are governed by the guiding principles of the Social Economy, thus being intrinsically linked to this sector."

One year of the UN General Assembly Resolution promoting the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) for sustainable development

On April 18, 2024, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE) hosted an anniversary webinar on the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution promoting the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) for sustainable development. The event featured regional updates and reflections and attracted nearly 400 registrants from 65 countries.

The european social economy is accelerating its campaign of dissemination and proposals ahead of the European Parliament elections

The upcoming European Parliament elections will take place from June 6 to 9, 2024. On the occasion of this important moment, the European social economy has presented multiple documents with its main demands and proposals. Specifically, Social Economy Europe (SEE) has widely disseminated its Memorandum and has held meetings with various Members of the European Parliament, parties, and groupings of the EU.

Social Platform warns that the EU fiscal reform may hinder, rather than promote, a just transition and a sustainable and equitable Europe

After several years of intense negotiations, the EU institutions have agreed on the reform of the Union's fiscal rules, which could signal a return to the austerity policies of the past decade. For Social Platform, the main platform for European social organizations, "instead of seizing this opportunity to create fiscal rules that can respond to Europe’s current and future challenges, the final outcome has fallen far short of expectations." As part of the Fiscal Matters coalition and alongside other civil society actors, trade unions, and political figures, Social Platform has expressed concerns that the new rules risk hindering, rather than promoting, a just transition and a sustainable and equitable Europe.

The European Disability Forum presents its intense activity in defending the rights of persons with disabilities at its assembly in Ljubljana

A hundred participants gathered in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on May 11 and 12, 2024, for the Annual General Assembly of the European Disability Forum (EDF). AMICE Congress: The Art of Mutuality. 3-4 June 2024, Bilbao, Spain

The ninth AMICE Congress will take place on 3-4 June 2024 in Bilbao, Spain. The host for this edition is AMICE member, Seguros Lagun Aro. European Microfinance Network (EMN) Annual Conference in Bucharest, 20-21 June

The conference will be preceded by a series of activities, including the General Assembly of the Network, which will take place on 19 June. Created in 2003 by Adie - France, NEF - UK and evers&jung - Germany, and with the support of the European Commission and the French Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC), the European Microfinance Network is a Brussels-based non-profit organisation that promotes microfinance as a tool to fight social and financial exclusion in Europe through self-employment and microenterprise creation.

34th CIRIEC International Congress - Costa Rica, 16-18 October 2024

The 34th CIRIEC International Congress on Public, Social and Cooperative Economy will take place in Costa Rica, in La Viña del Este, San José, on 16-18 October 2024, organised by UNED Costa Rica and CIRIEC. The theme will be ‘Strategies for territorial and human development’. The event is endorsed by the successful CIRIEC International Congress of Researchers in Social Economy held there in September 2021, with the participation of more than 500 people from 40 countries, including attendees and online participants, and the presentation of 180 papers. CIRIEC's international congresses are key events for the global community interested in the public, social and cooperative economy, as they promote knowledge exchange and international collaboration, and attract participants from all over the world, including representatives from the economic and social world, cooperative and social economy leaders, trade unionists, politicians and representatives of public institutions.
