Social and Solidarity Economy to change the way our societies produce and consume goods and services

In October 2010, the first ILO SSE Academy was held on the campus of CIT-ILO in Turin. From 2010 to today the social and solidarity economy has grown and obtained important recognition in all parts of the world. Both at the level of policies, as can be witnessed by institutional recognition, and in a broader sense, such as the examples of rapid and efficient response to crises like the one generated by COVID-19. Evidence of this is the fact that ILO constituents have decided to include in the agenda of the International Labor Conference, to be held in Geneva in June 2022, a general discussion on SSE.

The European Social Economy contribution to the transition pathway for the social economy ecosystem towards the green and digital economy
Last December, the EU Social Economy Action Plan was officially launched and it was accompanied by two working documents. One of them, titled “Scenarios towards co-creation of a transition pathway for a resilient, innovative, sustainable and digital proximity and social economy ecosystem”, aims at explaining how the social economy and proximity ecosystem has the right potential to contribute to green and digital transitions, strengthening resilience for future shocks.

New book on 'Women, Cooperativism and Social and Solidarity Economy in Ibero-America'
The Ibero-American Observatory OIBESCOOP, based at the University of Zaragoza (Spain) has published a new study, this time on a highly topical issue such as 'Women, Cooperativism and the Social and Solidarity Economy in Ibero-America'. The book has been produced by a working group made up of experts from the OIBESCOOP Network from 14 countries, coordinated by the president of OIBESCOOP, Carmen Marcuello (University of Zaragoza, Spain); María del Carmen Barragán (Autonomous University of Guerrero, Mexico); Eliane Rosandiski, (Pontificia Universidade Católica de Campinas, Brazil), and Juan Fernando Álvarez (Pontifical Javeriana University, Colombia).
