CIRIEC International, the Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED) of Costa Rica and CIRIEC-Costa Rica are pleased to convene the 34th CIRIEC International Congress on Public, Social and Cooperative Economy. The Congress will be held on 16, 17 and 18 October 2024 at the ANDE International Convention Centre (CIC) in Belen, Costa Rica, under the theme ‘What strategies for a territorial and human development?’.
The event is endorsed by the successful 8th CIRIEC International Research Conference on Social Economy held in San José in September 2021, with the participation of more than 500 people from 40 countries (participating online and on-site), and the presentation of 180 papers.
The CIRIEC international congresses are key events for the global community interested in public, social, and cooperative economy, promoting research, knowledge exchange, and international collaboration. They attract participants from around the world, including representatives from the economic and social sectors, cooperative and social economy leaders, trade unionists, politicians, and public institution representatives.
The CIRIEC Congress will discuss issues and challenges related to STRATEGIES and INNOVATIONS implemented under the impact of the various transitions. Social economy and public economy actors will share their experiences and achievements for a fairer and more sustainable society.
The organizers invite university researchers and specialized research centers to participate in the congress by submitting abstract proposals framed within the general theme and the following thematic fields:
1. Territorial development in urban and rural areas
2. Human development in relation to health, education, and rights
3. The SDGs and environmental emergency: concrete initiatives and impact measurement
4. Public policies for territorial development
5. Public policies and social and solidarity economy
6. Public initiative and action for development
7. Scientific and technological innovation
8. Infrastructure and public service networks
9. History of cooperativism and social economy
Abstracts should contain between 100 and 150 words and include bibliography. They can be written in Spanish, English, French, or Portuguese.

Accepted Papers: The list of accepted papers will be published on the Congress Website: https://ciriec.uned.ac.cr/es/congresos/2024
Submission of full texts: The deadline for submitting the full texts of the papers for publication is September 14, 2024. The maximum length is 9,000 words. The publication of papers received after this date is not guaranteed.
Accepted papers will be presented at the Congress in English, French, Portuguese, or Spanish. Papers from researchers who are not duly registered will not be accepted.
