The Association of Mutual Insurers and Insurance Cooperatives in Europe (AMICE), the voice of the mutual and cooperative insurance sector in Europe, has become a supporting institution of the United Nations Environment Programme – Finance Initiative Principles for Sustainable Insurance (UNEP PSI). The PSI Initiative is a global framework for the insurance industry to address environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities. It is the largest collaborative initiative between the United Nations (UN) and the insurance industry.
Complementing AMICE’s status as a supporting institution of the UNEP PSI, AMICE has established a Sustainability Working Group. The newly formed group further progresses members’ adoption of the sustainability agenda alongside AMICE’s advocacy work, focussing on the European Green Deal, sustainable finance and related policy developments. Virginia Antonini, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Communication at Italian mutual insurer Reale Group, has been appointed Chair of the Working Group.
AMICE’s new role as a supporting institution reinforces the commitments already made by several of its members as signatory companies to the UNEP PSI, and enables other mutual and cooperative insurers in Europe to engage with the Principles to strengthen their sustainability activities and contribute to society’s long-term resilience. AMICE will focus on sustainability as one of the key themes of this year’s AMICE Congress, which will be held in Wiesbaden/Mainz, Germany in June.
