The International Association of Mutual Benefit Societies (AIM) has published the summary report of its General Assembly held on November 13 and 14, 2024, in Brussels, hosted by Mutualité Chrétienne. The event brought together representatives from European mutuals, experts, and policymakers to discuss the main current challenges in the health and social protection sector.
During the assembly, key issues were addressed, including population aging, the shortage of healthcare professionals, unequal access to medical care, and the growing need for solidarity-based responses to health and social crises. AIM emphasized that mutualist values—such as solidarity, non-profit orientation, and democratic governance—are essential for building sustainable and fair healthcare systems in Europe.
In addition to analyzing structural challenges, emerging topics were discussed, such as the digitalization of healthcare, artificial intelligence serving citizens, mental health, and equitable access to medications. Participants insisted that any transition—be it digital, ecological, or organizational—must place people at the center, leaving no one behind.
As part of its 2025 strategy, AIM will strengthen its political advocacy in Europe and promote greater visibility of the role of mutuals in health protection and social welfare. The next AIM General Assembly will be held in June 2025, also in Brussels.
